We have closely watched developments re: Covid over the last year and have determined that the safest way to hold the event this year is to have only vaccinated men in attendance. While there are some who object to the vaccines on various grounds, and while we respect their right to decide what goes into their bodies, we will follow the mainstream science when it comes to assuring the safety of our brothers who attend WnH. This is not up for debate. If you choose to be unvaccinated for any reason, then you will have to skip this year’s WnH.
President Biden has said that vaccines will be available to all Americans by the end of May. That gives all of us American guys 3 months to get vaccinated. The Pfizer vaccine (the first one released) was shown in an as yet unpublished Israeli study to be effective in preventing transmission to others, as well as the known benefit of preventing serious Covid in the one who is vaccinated. It is likely that the Moderna and J&J vaccines will do the same.
We will require as proof of vaccination from all citizens of the US and its territories, at registration, the original CDC 3×5 card with your name that matches the name on your picture ID…no exceptions. Just to spell it out, ORIGINAL CDC 3×5 CARD means: no PDFs, no cell pictures, no xerox copies…ONLY THE ORIGINAL CARD!!! For those living in other countries, after you register for the event, we will research what your government gives as official proof of vaccination and will ask for that proof at the registration table, along with your official picture ID. This is for the protection of everyone in our community and so we can all feel emotionally relaxed and liberated to be our normal, piggy selves at the event. I have had both shots of the Moderna vaccine. While I still mask and distance, I feel a sense of total ease when I’m in indoor group situations that I didn’t feel pre-vaccination, so I know the vaccine will be a game changer for all of us, not only by eliminating the obvious physical risks, but by allowing us to breathe easily because we don’t have to worry about becoming seriously ill or (most likely) transmitting the virus to anyone else.
In the event that something goes awry between now and September and the event does not take place, I urge you to make REFUNDABLE airline and hotel reservations NOW while people are not flying and the airlines and hotels are still hungry, as you have nothing to lose. Don’t wait because, at some point, airlines and hotels will tighten their policies. I would hate for this year’s event to be cancelled and anyone suffer financially because of it.
Registration will open on June 1. Further details will be forthcoming. wetnhot.net has been updated to reflect the latest information.
Big, wet hugs to you all and stay safe!
